Between traits and sensations, the Jamaxi armchair is inspired by Brazilian native culture

The base of our country comes from the native people that lived here, they cultivated values around sharing and community, bringing these values to their handmade objects throughout their history. Brazilian`s native craft was a big inspiration to DonaFlor’s latest pieces.

Designed by Sergio Matos, in his debut with the brand, the Jamaxi collection it’s composed by an armchair and couch that carry the term originated by the Tupi language. This term is a reference to the weiepe baskets (also known as Jamaxi), traditional artefacts from the Waimiri Atroari tribe.

About the Artist – Sergio Matos is the winner of some of the main Design awards in the world. The latest it’s the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), in New York, 2018, with the award for outdoor furniture, this artist inserts himself in the Brazilian indigenous culture e brings to his work shapes and traits with rope forming free and harmonic patterns.

The Jamaxi collection was exposed in CASACOR in Goiás, between May 10th and June 20th. It was an invite to find the essence of our origins, under characteristics that are very Brazilian in their conception and execution.
