From Modernist Architecture to Geometric Plastic Arts

Bauhaus was a great house of new ideas, an avant-garde institution. Active between 1919 and 1933, in Germany and founded by architect Walter Gropius, the movement celebrates its’ 100th anniversary as one of the most influential marks on modern art.

Bauhaus concept was to unite beauty and functionality, with inventive techniques in design, contemporary ideas, and a profound impact in the development of the industry of design and architecture as we know today.

It was the first design school in the world, in German, it was known as the ‘building house’ or the ‘the house to build in’ (free translation), which shows the idea of learning and art connecting in one single space. Everything that was made and studied there had influence in the modern aesthetic, consequently in the world.

Bauhaus it is still a reference to new ways of thinking about art, on how to bring new perspectives in different techniques, concepts and creation in general. Its’ influences are in the day-to-day life represented by a clean aesthetic, very light and functional. Bauhaus emphasized the simplicity, the use of a lor of metals and aluminum, with a lot of geometrical shapes, the visuals were always balanced and colorful, creating a practical beauty.
