Piece made in partnership by Sérgio Matos and DonaFlor Mobília participates in actions in Olinda and Recife

The piece participated in two important artistic moments in the state: in Olinda, it was part of the DW preview stand! Design Week, at Fenearte (National Crafts Business Fair); and, in Recife, he participated in the exhibition Plural: Mãos e Almas – The meeting of crafts, art, design and Brazilian industry in Pernambuco. 

Created by the internationally known designer from Mato Grosso, the Manta Negra armchair is based on the Manta Ray, one of the largest stingrays found on the Brazilian coast, also known as Manta. Combining aluminum and nautical rope, the furniture designed exclusively for DonaFlor Mobília guarantees durability and diverse aesthetic possibilities. 

At the 80 m² stand at preview DW! Design Week, in Olinda, Manta Negra shared the space with creations by other artists, artisans, designers and brands, including Zé Bezerra, Fábio Melo, Eduardo Cavalcanti, Lama Bioconstrução, Caio Lobo, Iris Marcolino, Luis Benicio, Tapetah, André Menezes and Alex Marinho.

On the fifth floor of the Pernambuco Building, in Recife, the exhibition featured several other creatives from the region. In the same space, Luis Benicio, Marieta and Associação Mimo as Terra, Altinho/PE, interpreted three examples of the armchair. Sérgio Matos provided the pieces to be worked on in an original way with techniques and materials that represent this meeting of worlds between design, craftsmanship, and industry. 

Fenearte is carried out by the Government of the State of Pernambuco through the Pernambuco Development Agency (Adepe), the State Economic Development Secretariat (Sdec), the Pernambuco Tourism Company (Empetur), the State Tourism Secretariat and the Fundação do Historical and Artistic Heritage of Pernambuco (Fundarpe)/State Secretariat of Culture (Secult).
